Monthly PUM #1: Mother of Origins – 10000 B.C.

Table of Contents

Welcome, Companions!

We are glad to announce the first ever community event for playing and storytelling together, starting from the same build up, with the Plot Unfolding Machine.

This first event exists thanks to our first volunteer, Seal (reach them out in our Discord server!), who proposed the first game: Mother of Origins, a story setup in the Stone Age!

From this setup of a story and universe, we start all at the same point in time to tell a story, using our favorite RPG (or just the oracles of PUM!), and by the end of the submission date, we gather to make a nice summary of Story Submitters.

What is Mother of Origins – Primal 10000 BC about?

The game proposed is an open-ended setup set in the Stone Age, where humans were still figuring out the ways of living. All the credits go to our beloved community member Seal for this submission.

The keyword tags of this adventure are:

  • History
  • Philosophy
  • Evolution
  • Exploration
  • Survival
  • Society

You will experience the early hardships of experiencing a settled life as opposed to a nomadic lifestyle, and how discovering the right way to survive in such era could be achieved.

What do I need to participate?

Most importantly, you need PUM Companion, the App to play Plot Unfolding Machine. The app can load a .PUMC available down here, which includes the World Building, the Setup, Characters, Locations, and much more.

You can get the app: here for Windows/Linuxhere for Androidhere for iOS/MacOS

This single .PUMC file includes everything you need in order to play in the app, but additionally, a world build document will be attached here for your reference and convenience.

Nothing else is needed to participate other than your imagination! Get the .PUMC file, import it, play, and Export your PDF story in our Discord server. A dedicated channel is available there to submit your game!

What are the rules?

  • Follow the given base game and its guidelines (read below)
  • Submit your Exported PDF game until 24th of November 2024 to be part of the Roundup! (You may continue playing afterwards for as long as you like)
  • Be respectful of each other submissions, appreciative and collaborative. Read them if you can and give hearts and comments.
  • Games using explicit language or touch sensitive matters MUST include a NSFW warning
  • Use the Plot Unfolding Machine as a base GM Emulator. You may include any other resources you like on top.
  • Submissions in any languages are welcome, but the Roundup and feedback from others is limited.
  • Perfection is NOT expected. This is not a community of professional writers. This is a community to play Roleplaying games and tell stories using dice and Tabletop RPGs!
  • We reserve the right to block or delete a submission that can be offensive or harmful to an open audience of readers

Submission Template

Please provide the following whenever you share a PDF of your game (be it in progress or complete)

  • Your own thoughts about the game
  • Summary of the game itself and what happened in it
  • Clarifications or suggestions for the reader to comprehend
  • IS NSFW? (makes use of explicit language or exposes sensitive matters)
  • Optional: Image that reflects your story

Other considerations

🎲 Use the RPG System of your choice and preference (join our Discord to discuss about it). You may also play without an RPG System. Whichever System chosen, should respect the universe.

🎲 The base game contains information about the universe, and its narrative laws, please stick to such laws whenever possible

🎲 The base game contains characters and locations exist and can’t be removed before the story begins

🎲 Players may decide to use any of the given characters, or create their own

🎲 The length of the submission should be “reasonable” – please use your own judgment

🎲 Players may not always like the base game of this monthly event, feel free to skip one round to the next. Unfortunately we can’t satisfy all tastes, but we’ll try.

🎲 Have fun with the base game, try things differently, be open to a different way of playing

How to import the .PUMC file and how to play?

  1. Download the .PUMC file from the link down below. Optionally, also download the World Building Appendix file!
  2. Open the App, then click on Import a game, selected the .PUMC file you downloaded
  3. Done, the app should automatically launch the imported game

How to use the App to explore the contents of the game?

Open the Speakers list of the Log Area, and hold and press (or right-click) on the Gamemaster (Old whispering Soul) Icon to quickly open the GM notes

This will open the Sheet Viewer. From here, you can navigate throughout various characters, and review the included information about the game. Make sure you read the Plot Scope and GM Notes!

Read the Plot scope and Notes text areas, as they include the most useful information to get in the game.

Tips for playing Mother of Origins

The development of the game and story are mainly up to your preferences, but since this is the first time we do this, ever, we could gather some pointers that could help you:

🎲 Read slowly the Plot Scope and Notes text areas of the Gamemaster character
🎲 Take a look at the World Map and identify the images of random tables you can use
🎲 Give a quick glance at the list of Characters and Locations
🎲 Read quickly the titles of all Plot Nodes to get a feel of what are things about
🎲 Let yourself go with the Oracles and Plot Unfolding Machine. Make use of the Random proposal to get ideas about what could happen next, or what could you incorporate in your story and current scenes.
🎲 Let yourself have fun, do not seek perfection, keep things simple. Enjoy and do what YOU like the most with it. The game is for YOU, not for others.

And this is a nice track for playing along:

Download the GAME and WORLD BUILDING files!

Submission Dates and Deadlines!

The deadline of 24.11.2024 is not strict, it is however the date where we are going to take a look at all submissions, and setup a YouTube video or Stream, and a nice poster, of all submitted games and their highlights.

You may continue playing this campaign for as long as you like. The deadline is figurative and will be adjusted in future events to the needs of the majority.

Submissions are made in the Discord Server, by opening a dedicated Forum Thread per Player. You may upload your exported PDF game, and later on continue to play and upload another one.

You do NOT have to wait until the deadline to submit, in-progress games are allowed!

Do we get anything for participating?

Not at this time, but stay tuned!

Questions? Feedback? Bug Reports?

Please do so in our DISCORD SERVER. For questions about the Setting and the game of the month in particular, reach out to Seal directly! 🙂

Have fun and stay in touch!
